The Duke softball team has only been around since the 2018 season, but the program hasn’t wasted any time rising to national prominence. 

The Blue Devils already have collected a pair of wins at the ACC Softball Championship (2021, 2024), four appearances in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), three NCAA Super Regional appearances (2022, 2023, 2024) and one visit to the NCAA Women’s College World Series (2024).

Duke’s quest to improve on a record-setting performance last year will include a trip to the 2025 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, which will take place Feb. 20-23.

The Blue Devils are coming off a program-best 52-9 season that ended as one of eight teams that qualified for the 2024 NCAA Women’s College World Series. 

The campaign’s final days in Oklahoma City included a loss to eventual national champion Oklahoma and a season-ending loss to Alabama. 

Duke’s 2025 season will begin with a trip to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida (Feb. 6-9) and a stop at the Bubly Invitational in Gainesville, Florida (Feb. 14-16).

A quick doubleheader against East Carolina (Feb. 19) will precede the Blue Devils’ cross-country trek to California for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. It will be their second appearance at the event and first since 2019.

At the 2025 MNCC, Duke will face Nebraska, Howard, BYU, Minnesota and UCLA.

In its last appearance at the Mary Nutter in 2019, Duke went 1-4, losing in consecutive games to Northwestern, California, Army West Point and Ohio State, before finishing the week with a win over Utah.

About Big League Dreams Cathedral City

The Big League Dreams Sports Parks are scattered throughout the United States and provide recreational and tournament players of all ages the chance to compete on world-class fields, often built as replicas of famous stadiums from the storied history of Major League Baseball.

Along with the nostalgic fields, the Big League Dreams venues include a restaurant and bar, batting cages, play area for children, stadium seating and space for other sports (hockey, soccer, sand volleyball), events and competitions. 

Big League Dreams Cathedral City was the first of the eight BLD properties to open, doing so in 1998. The park includes five fields. Among them, Boston’s Fenway Park, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Who Was Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport. 

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
