The Sharks started brightly, with Siya Masuku scoring a try in the opening minutes and converting his own effort, before Hakeem Kunene added another try to give the visitors an early 12-0 lead.
However, that advantage was short-lived, as Penaud ignited Bordeaux-Begles' response with his first try in the 12th minute, setting the tone for an electric display.

Penaud crossed the line three more times before the break, including a crucial score in the 39th minute, when Matthieu Jalibert converted to send the home side into the halftime interval with a 19-12 lead.
The second half was a one-sided affair, as Bordeaux-Begles turned on the style to overwhelm its opponents.
Penaud added two more tries in the 66th and 71st minutes, bringing his tally for the match to six - a feat that delighted the roaring crowd at Stade Chaban-Delmas. His clinical finishing showcased why he is considered one of rugby’s most exciting talents.
Bordeaux-Begles piled on further misery for the Sharks with tries from Maxime Lucu, Ugo Boniface, Yoram Moefana and Jacques Nguimbous.
Fly-half Jalibert was instrumental in keeping the scoreboard ticking, slotting seven conversions to cap off a near-flawless display with the boot.
The result proved costly for the Sharks, who dropped out of the last 16 as Ulster edged ahead of them on points difference. Bordeaux-Begles, meanwhile, solidify its status as a contender with this emphatic victory.
The Sharks struggled to regain their early momentum, hindered by disciplinary issues, including yellow cards for Hakeem Kunene and Connor Sa. In contrast, Bordeaux-Begles maintained relentless pressure, delivering a performance that underscored their ambitions this season.
