Harlequins Thump Glasgow Warriors To Secure Progression To The Last-16

Harlequins delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Glasgow Warriors 24-7 in a decisive Round 4 clash of the Investec Champions Cup on Saturday evening at The Twickenham Stoop.

The hosts asserted their dominance early, with Chandler Cunningham-South crashing over the try line in the 13th minute. Marcus Smith added the conversion, setting the tone for an impressive display. Just six minutes later, James Chisholm extended the lead with another try, which Smith again converted. The England fly-half further punished Glasgow with a penalty in the 25th minute, giving Harlequins a 17-0 advantage.

Glasgow found a lifeline through Tom Jordan late in the first half. The fly-half scored a try in the 28th minute and added the conversion himself to reduce the deficit to 17-7 before the interval.

Despite the Warriors’ attempt to mount a comeback, Harlequins controlled the tempo in the second half. A defensive masterclass from the London side kept Glasgow scoreless for the remainder of the match while Harlequins capitalised on their opportunities.

Cadan Murley sealed the result in the 67th minute with a spectacular try, showcasing his pace and finishing ability. Smith, who was flawless off the tee, added the conversion to extend the lead to 24-7.

Harlequins’ tactical substitutions throughout the match ensured fresh legs on the field, with notable contributions from Sam Riley and Wyn Jones in the second half. Glasgow, too, rotated their squad, but their replacements, including Gregor Brown and Henco Venter, struggled to shift the momentum.

The victory keeps Harlequins firmly in contention in the Champions Cup, while Glasgow will be left to reflect on missed opportunities and a lack of penetration against a well-drilled Quins defence.

The result leaves Harlequins poised for a strong finish in the group stage, while Glasgow will host a round of 16 clash but not a quarterfinal, should they progress that far.
