In the first half of the teams’ two-game set at Iowa on Friday night, the IceHogs took a 6-3 victory. Friday’s victory took the IceHogs’ (16-16-3-1) lead on the Central Division playoff line to 12 points. Iowa (13-21-2-0), back home following seven consecutive games on the road, is stuck eight points in back of Rockford in the Central Division race. IceHogs forward Cole Guttman, just named as a replacement selection for the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic earlier Friday, scored twice and had an assist while Drew Commesso stopped 41 shots. Defenseman Kevin Korchinski chipped in two assists.
Friday’s loss began an eight-game homestand for the Wild, who had gone 3-3-1-0 on that seven-game road trip. Goals from Ben Jones, Bradley Marek, and Joseph Cecconi helped an Iowa rally after Rockford had taken a 4-0 first-period lead. Dylan Ferguson had 23 saves for the Wild, who are just 7-8-0-0 at home this season.

Rockford IceHogs (Chicago Blackhawks) – What to Watch For
With the Blackhawks’ ongoing rebuild in full swing, the IceHogs have been replete with top prospects.
Forward Frank Nazar is on recall to Chicago, but he had 11-13-24 in just 21 games with Rockford. With Nazar and Colton Dach both unavailable, Guttman leads the way with 18-18-36 in 36 games.
The blue line stars Korchinski, the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, and Artyom Levshunov, a 19-year-old the Blackhawks selected second overall last June. Korchinski, who played all last season in Chicago as a rookie, has 2-15-17 in 28 games with Rockford while Levshunov is 2-9-11 through 31 games.
Commesso, another key prospect for the Chicago rebuild, is in his second pro season after going to the Blackhawks as a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He is 8-9-1 | 2.81 | .902 in 18 games so far. His 41 saves Friday were an AHL career-high. Mitchell Weeks is 7-7-3 | 3.07 | .892 in 18 games as well.
Rockford is eight overall in the AHL on the power play (20.1 percent) and has the second-best penalty kill at 86.9 percent.
Iowa Wild (Minnesota Wild) – What to Watch For
With Liam Öhgren in Minnesota, forwards Hunter Haight and Caedan Bankier highlight Iowa’s young scoring help. Haight, a 20-year-old rookie who was a 2022 second-round pick, has 10-9-19 in 35 games with Iowa. Last season he played a significant role in helping the Saginaw Spirit to win their first Memorial Cup title. Bankier is in his second season after going to Minnesota as a 2021 third-round selection and has 8-9-17 in 36 games.
Carson Lambos is in his second season with the Iowa defense corps. Minnesota made him a 2021 first-round selection, and the 22-year-old has 3-4-7 in 32 games so far this season. David Spacek, another second-year defensemen continues to progress as well.
Top goaltending prospect Jesper Wallstedt has had a challenging season and has been out of action since Dec. 27. That means that Ferguson and Samuel Hlavaj have the Iowa net now. Hlavaj, a 23-year-old who had spent the past three seasons in Slovakia, is 5-7-0 | 2.96 | .898 in 14 games with Iowa.
