The devastating fires that have ripped through the Los Angeles area have gripped the nation, but for some it is especially hitting close to home.

The AHL’s Ontario Reign, in particular, are closest to the actual devastation and also share a practice facility with the Los Angeles Kings in nearby El Segundo.

While each of the AHL’s five California-based teams have been able to play on, they’re making sure to do their part in joining their communities in providing relief where they can.

The Reign, Bakersfield Condors, Coachella Valley Firebirds, San Diego Gulls and San Jose Barracuda, have each made announcements detailing their efforts to provide support to first-responders and those impacted by the fires.

The AHL provided a summary of their efforts.

Additionally, if you have the ability, consider a donation to the American Red Cross at RedCross.org.

Ontario Reign

The closest team to the fires, the Reign play just east of Los Angeles. Many players and staff live close to where the fires have devastated the landscape.

Last weekend, the Reign raised over $4,000 through their chuck-a-puck contest and silent auctions held by their Hope Reigns Foundation with the World Central Kitchen serving as the beneficiary.

The Reign was slated to host their annual First Responders Weekend for Saturday and Sunday’s games coming up, however they have decided to move that event to Feb. 23. That will allow all those who have been occupied dealing with the emergency to have a chance to be recognized.

Coincidentally, the Ontario Fire Department hockey team is slated to play a game against the New York Fire Department on Saturday. The event benefits the Ray Pfeifer Foundation for Sept. 11 first responders and the family of Ontario firefighter and paramedic Javan Settles who passed away in December.

The team also announced that it will be collecting non-perishable items throughout this weekend's games.

Bakersfield Condors

On Jan. 24, when the Condors return home from their road trip, proceeds from the game will be going towards wildfire relief. Additionally, a portion of their ticket and merchandise sales from the Jan. 24 game will go towards the Bakersfield and Kern County fire emergency personnel who have been sent to assist with fire relief efforts in Los Angeles.

Coachella Valley Firebirds

The Firebirds, based in Palm Desert, Calif., made a pledge of $10,000 along with the One Valley Foundation to go to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Additionally, $7,000 was raised through an in-game auction from One Valley Foundation.

Coachella Valley is going a step further in holding donation drives this week outside of their home, Acrisure Arena. For Thursday night’s game, fans were encouraged to donate supplies like diapers, phone charges, socks, toiletries, blankets, pillows, juices, water, dog food, snacks and more.

Lastly, the Firebirds pledged 50 percent of the proceeds of all individual tickets purchased for Thursday’s game to go towards fire relief and recovery efforts.

San Diego Gulls

During their home game against the Iowa Wild on Wednesday, the Gulls collected donations from attendees.

The Gulls will also hold an online fundraiser with proceeds benefitting the World Central Kitchen and Los Angeles Fire Department. The team plans to match all donations received this weekend up to $5,000.

San Jose Barracuda

The team’s charity, Beyond the Reef, pledged all proceeds from the chuck-a-puck from a game on Jan. 10, as well as those on Jan. 25 and 26 to benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

The organization is also setting up non-perishable donation stations at their local arena to collect food, toiletries, clothing and more.
