Eliud Kipchoge To Compete In 2025 TCS London Marathon
Eliud Kipchoge To Compete In 2025 TCS London Marathon
Eliud Kipchoge, the 11-time World Marathon Majors champion and two-time Olympic champion, is returning to London for the first time since 2020.
The marathon GOAT is returning to London for the sixth time.
Eliud Kipchoge -- the 11-time World Marathon Majors champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and only person to ever go under two hours at the marathon distance -- will race the 2025 TCS London Marathon on April 27, event organizers announced on Friday.

During the span of his historic career, Kipchoge has captured four titles in five appearances in London, which came as back-to-back wins in 2015 and 2016 and again in 2018 and 2019. That's the most titles won by an individual in the elite men's category in event history.
It's been five years, however, since Kipchoge last ran the London Marathon. In the elite-only 2020 event, he finished eighth while battling an ear infection.
Outside of London, Kipchoge has won the Berlin Marathon five times and both the Chicago Marathon and Tokyo Marathon once during his years on the roads. From October 2015 to April 2023, Kipchoge won every marathon he raced except for the 2020 London Marathon.
Kipchoge currently sits at No. 2 all-time for the men's marathon behind his 2:01:09 run at the Berlin Marathon in 2022, but he's perhaps more universally known for becoming the first human to ever run under two hours over 26.2 miles at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in 2019 (though, it did not meet the criteria for an official world record by World Athletics standards).
The 2025 London Marathon comes at a pinnacle point in Kipchoge's career, a point where he hasn't won in awhile. His last marathon victory came in 2023 in Berlin, and in the past year he has placed 10th in Tokyo and also registered a DNF in Paris at the Olympic Games.
He'll be a huge name in an already star-studded list of elite men's entrants for London, a group that includes Paris Olympic champion Tamirat Tola and defending champion Alexander Mutiso, among plenty others.
"It's a privilege to share this journey with everyone else who will be taking part as we push ourselves to deliver our best performances," said Kipchoge in a statement. "After a good period of rest, I have returned to training with renewed energy and focus. I feel re-fueled to give my very best in London."
Hugh Brasher, TCS London Marathon CEO, said it's a privilege to welcome back Kipchoge to the streets of London.
"His four victories here in London is a record in the elite men's category and, after five years away, it's so exciting to be welcoming him back to the TCS London Marathon in 2025 for our historic 45th edition," said Brasher in a news release.
