The second women's basketball division I rankings of the year are out. Another week of top-tier play from the best teams in the country has passed, with some dominant performances and games going down to wire finishes among ranked teams.

There is about a month and a half away from separating teams from the March Madness tournament for a chance to become national champions and dethrone the powerhouse that is South Carolina.

Here is what to know about this week's rankings.

Can UCLA Finish The Season As The Overall No. 1

  • Coming into this week, the Bruins are undoubtedly the No. 1 team in the country and the only undefeated team remaining aside from LSU.
  • UCLA women's basketball overtook the No. 1 spot earlier in the year after defeating South Carolina women's basketball 77-62 at Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 24.
  • The biggest question, however, is whether they can run the table and finish the season unbeaten.
  • In the team's final 13 games of the season, they have six games against ranked opponents, and they are all conference games, including two of those against in-state rival USC.

Highest Riser: California Women's Basketball

  • After two conference wins over No. 21 NC State and Florida State, the Golden Bears have moved six spots from No. 24 to No. 18 and received their 16th win of the season.
  • This week, they will face off against Duke women's basketball and Wake Forest on the road in a hostile environment.
  • Ideally, this will prepare them for their biggest game of the season on Feb. 9, when they will travel to Indiana to face Notre Dame women's basketball.

Biggest Dropper: Georgia Tech Women's Basketball

  • The Yellow Jackets suffered their first two losses of the year, losing to Virginia Tech and Louisville. Before that, they were undefeated and 13th in the country.

Things will not get easier for Georgia Tech as its next game is against Notre Dame WBB later this week on Jan. 16.
