The world record holder is coming to London.

Event organizers announced today that women's marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich will race the 2025 TCS London Marathon on April 27.

Chepngetich, who clocked the fastest women's marathon ever of 2:09:56 at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, stands as the only woman to have ever gone under 2:10 at the distance.

The announcement comes after meet organizers confirmed earlier this week that Paris Olympic champions Sifan Hassan and Tamirat Tola will both race the London Marathon in April. Hassan won the women's race in her marathon debut in 2023, and Tola has finished as high as third in London in his career.

But the battle between Chepgnetich and Hassan will be quite intriguing, to say the least. It pits two of the best to ever to race on the roads against each other. Hassan currently sits at No. 3 all-time in the marathon behind her 2:13:44 winning performance from the 2023 Chicago Marathon.

And they won't be the only two greats racing in London. Organizers also announced that Peres Jepchirchir, defending champion and women's-only marathon world record holder, will be racing the event again in 2025.

Jepchirchir clocked 2:16:16 at the 2024 London Marathon to set the world record in the women's-only race category. She's won plenty of marathons in her career, including the 2021 New York City Marathon, 2022 Boston Marathon and Tokyo Olympics marathon.

Chepngetich's previous matchup with Jepchirchir came at that record-breaking London Marathon in 2024 when Jepchirchir broke that women's-only mark. While Jepchirchir won the race, Chepngetich placed ninth in 2:24:36.

Meanwhile, Hassan also has a win over Chepngetich at the World Marathon Majors, beating her by nearly two minutes at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. Chepngetich, who owns three Chicago Marathon titles, finished second that year in 2:15:37.

Chepngetich isn't writing off the possibility that another record could fall in London in 2025. She said in a statement that she thinks the star-studded field could take aim at the women's-only all-time best set by Jepchirchir last year.

"Myself, Peres and the other women are strong, so it will be a competitive one and I want to prepare as best as I can and we will see if we can lower Peres' world record of 2:16:16 from last year," Chepchirchir said "With the strength of the field, I think we can support each other and maybe the world record will fall."
