Event organizers announced on Monday morning that Paris Olympic marathon champions Sifan Hassan and Tamirat Tola, along with Paralympic marathon champions Catherine Debrunner and Marcel Hug, will compete in the 2025 TCS London Marathon on April 27.

For Hassan, it will be her first time back at the London Marathon since winning the event in 2023 in her marathon debut. After having to stop momentarily to stretch mid-race, Hassan came back to win in 2:18:33.

Since her first race in London, Hassan has established herself as one of the fastest women's marathon runners in history. She won the 2023 Chicago Marathon in 2:13:44 which puts her at No. 3 all-time on women's world marathon all-time list.

In Paris, Hassan put together an incredible feat, winning bronze in both the women's 5,000m and 10,000m before going on to beat a loaded field in the marathon on the final day of the Olympic Games in an Olympic record 2:22:55.

Tola also enters the 2025 London Marathon with an extensive marathon resume, winning the Paris Olympic marathon in a Olympic record of 2:06:26. Tola also won the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon with a course record mark of 2:04:58. 

However, Tola will surely be looking for redemption in London. In his last go at the event last year, he did not finish the race. Tola placed third at the 2023 edition of the race.

Debrunner and Hug will headline the women's and men's wheelchair races with a history of dominating at the World Marathon Majors. Hug already owns the men's wheelchair course record in London, and Debrunner returns as the defending champion in the women's field.
