A pair of Atlantic Division rivals finish a home-and-home series when the Lehigh Valley Phantoms visit the Hartford Wolf Pack this Saturday in the FloHockey AHL Game of the Week (7:00 p.m. ET).

The Wolf Pack (16-14-2-1) pulled out a 3-2 victory at PPL Center on Friday night with Victor Mancini’s goal 1:41 into overtime. AHL All-Star Dylan Garand made 28 saves, Adam Sýkora contributed a goal and an assist, and Nate Sucese added two assists. It was the team’s first back-to-back win on the road this season. Hartford, sixth in the Atlantic Division, trails fifth-place Lehigh Valley by three points with a pair of games in hand and is also six points clear of the divisional playoff line. The Wolf Pack finished their run of four consecutive road games at 3-1-0-0.

Lehigh Valley (16-13-5-1) had a three-game winning streak ended. Phantoms netminder Cal Petersen had 19 saves. Saturday’s game is the second of a three-in-three weekend for the Phantoms, who will stop in Bridgeport for a Sunday matinee before returning home.

The Wolf Pack will also celebrate 50 years of professional hockey in Hartford on Saturday. Before they came to Hartford in 1997, the city had hosted the Whalers in both the WHA and NHL.

Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers) – What to Watch For

The Phantoms have been without AHL All-Star Olle Lycksell, who has been on recall to Philadelphia since Dec. 27.

With Lycksell gone, forward Samu Tuomaala took the team scoring lead Friday night with an assist. The 2021 second-rounder is in his second season with Lehigh Valley and has 8-17-25 in 32 games.

Lehigh Valley has gotten a significant contribution from undrafted forward Jacob Gaucher, whose 14 goals in 35 games lead the team. The 23-year-old earned himself his first NHL entry-level contract last month when he signed a two-year deal with Philadelphia. Coming out of the QMJHL in 2022, he had a 22-39-61 rookie season with the Reading Royals, the Philadelphia organization’s ECHL affiliate before taking a full-time role with the Phantoms last year.

Along with Petersen, who has played 106 NHL games between the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia, the Phantoms also have Parker Gahagen in net. He is 3-1-1 | 3.38 | .881 in seven games this season.

Hartford Wolf Pack (New York Rangers) – What to Watch For

Garand, selected earlier this week for his first AHL All-Star Classic, ranks fifth in the AHL with a .929 save percentage through 17 games. In his third full AHL season, the 22-year-old has gone 11-4-2 to go with a 2.16 goals-against average. The Wolf Pack also received veteran counterpart Louis Domingue back from the Rangers this week.

Two top prospects are counted on to provide offense for head coach Grant Potulny’s line-up. Sýkora’s goal Friday night, his eighth, brought him even with his rookie total last season. A 2022 second-round pick, he spent last season with the Wolf Pack as a 19-year-old. After missing more than two months with an injury, 2021 first-round pick Brennan Othmann returned to the Hartford line-up Dec. 27 and has 1-2-3 in six games since his return. He notched 21 goals as a rookie last season in Hartford.

The Wolf Pack roster also got forward Brett Berard back from the Rangers on Friday night as forward Bo Groulx was recalled. The 22-year-old Berard has not played for the Wolf Pack since Nov. 23. While on recall to the Rangers, he had 3-4-7 in 19 games. Before his promotion to New York, he had provided 7-6-13 in 16 games. Last season as a rookie with the Wolf Pack, he had a team-leading 25 goals in 71 games. He went to the Rangers in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Groulx, a 24-year-old offseason signing by the Rangers, has a team-leading 11 goals to go with 18 assists in 32 games for the Wolf Pack this season.
