The UCA/UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship has become an annual opportunity for the talented University of Minnesota dance team to show off a little bit, and that shouldn’t change for 2025.

The Gophers will be among the teams competing for national titles at one of the most iconic venues around – the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex – when the 2025 UDA College Nationals returns to Orlando, Florida, from Jan. 17-19.

Minnesota is the reigning national champion in Division IA Pom and finished as the runner-up in DIA Jazz. 

As always, expectations are high for the Gophers to contend for both titles at the 2025 event.

Let’s take a look at some things to know about the Minnesota dance team ahead of the Gophers taking the stage at UDA College Nationals 2025.

About The University Of Minnesota Dance Team

A small squad of 25 student-athletes has a huge responsibility at the University of Minnesota.

Along with competing regularly in elite competitions, including the Division IA Jazz and Pom categories at the UDA College Nationals, plus other regional, national and international events, the Minnesota dance team works in support of Gopher athletics, appearing at football and men’s basketball games.

Is The Minnesota Dance Team The Best In The Country?

The Minnesota dance team certainly has thrown a hat in the ring for being the best squad of all-time, supported by 22 national titles since 2003 (12 jazz, 10 pom) and three gold medals at the International Cheer Union World Championships. 

If the overall number of titles isn’t impressive enough, how about eight consecutive pom wins at one point and six years with titles in pom AND jazz?

University Of Minnesota Gophers Win 2024 National Title

The Minnesota dance team may have come up short in the jazz portion of the 2024 UDA College Nationals, but the Gophers didn’t leave Orlando, Florida, empty handed – they outlasted Ohio State in the pom category to claim a 22nd championship.

The Gophers won the crown with a score of 98.4762, while OSU was second with 97.7143.

The jazz event was a little title, however. The Buckeyes won with a score of 98.9206, edging Minnesota (98.4286).

Minnesota Dance Routine From 2024 Went Viral 

Sometimes, social media can be a distraction. Other times, it can help the world see something amazing and unforgettable the majority of people would’ve missed out on decades ago.

This sentiment is especially true for the Minnesota dance team, which managed to turn a losing moment into unique victory that even had the support of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

It turns out that an aerial turn in the Gophers’ jazz routine at the 2024 UDA College Nationals, possibly never performed on the national stage before, had TikTok buzzing, and even though Minnesota ultimately lost the jazz title to Ohio State, the performance brought unprecedented exposure to the team and competitive dance.

Nearly a year later, the video on the Minnesota TikTok account has garnered 1.3 million views, while the team’s pom-winning performance has another 528,500 views. Amazingly, Ohio State’s winning jazz routine has been watched on the team’s TikTok account more than 7.7 million times.

Minnesota Spirit Squad Schedule At UCA/UDA College Nationals 2025

• Minnesota will compete in the Small Coed IA Cheer Game Day semifinals on Jan. 17 at 2:53 p.m. (AdventHealth Arena - South).
• Minnesota will compete in the DIA Jazz prelims on Jan. 17 at 9:49 p.m. (State Farm Field House).
• Minnesota will compete in the Small Coed IA Cheer semifinals on Jan. 18 at 11:21 a.m. (AdventHealth Arena - South).
• Minnesota’s Goldy Gopher will compete in the DIA Mascot competition on Jan. 18 at 5:25 p.m. (AdventHealth Arena - South).
