North Carolina Advances To Battle 4 Atlantis Final

After both teams earned wins yesterday in the first day of 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis, No. 16 North Carolina beats Villanova in their semi final matchup. North Carolina will now take on No. 18 Baylor in a top 25 matchups after the Bears beat Indiana earlier today. Villanova will now face Indiana in the third place match.

The difference in today’s game was how efficient North Carolina was offensively. Most of their shots were clean and put points on the board, and they were really able to disrupt Villanova’s shooting game defensively.

Final: North Carolina Takes It 53-36
While the fourth quarter was more even when it came to scoring, Villanova was unable to overcome their huge deficit and falls by nearly 20. The difference in scoring was really due to the lack of clean shots by Villanova due to how much North Carolina was able to disturb them defensively. North Carolina will advance to the championship game tomorrow while Villanova will play for third.
Third Quarter: North Carolina Doubles Their Lead
In a relatively low scoring third quarter apart from both teams trading free throws, North Carolina extends their lead to 44-23. While both teams have around 40 shots, North Carolina has had far better looks, with almost a 50% accuracy overall, and 30% accuracy shooting 3’s. Villanova has struggled shooting overall, only making 20% of their shots going into the fourth.

Lexi Donarski put the first points on the board in the second quarter with a quick layup a minute and a half into the quarter. With the lead at 21-7, Lara Edmanson and Maddie Webber were able to chip at the lead a bit but North Carolina holds on steady into halftime.

North Carolina takes a dominating ten point lead at the end of the first with a strong start for Alyssa Ustuby and Lexi Donarski. Kaitlyn Oriheli adds three points for Villanova, but they are unable to really get the ball moving and get clean shots off.

Alyssa Ustby Leads North Carolina To Win With Double-Double Over Ball State
It was a close battle between the No. 16 North Carolina Tar Heels and Ball State Cardinals in a low-scoring battle. The Tar Heels were able to tilt the game further and further into their favor as Alyssa Ustby found her rhythm alongside Indya Nivar.
Ball State took a while to get warmed up and will be looking for redemption on Sunday after losing for the first time this season.

Villanova Rallies Past Texas A&M, Wins 65-57 In Battle 4 Atlantis
Villanova rallied from an early deficit to defeat Texas A&M 65-57 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's Tournament on Saturday, advancing to face No. 16 North Carolina on Sunday.
Texas A&M came out strong in the first quarter, racing to a 14-4 lead as Villanova struggled to find its offensive rhythm, missing key shots and failing to score for much of the opening 10 minutes. But the Wildcats responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Aggies in the first four minutes to cut their lead to just five points.
Texas A&M’s Coulibaly stopped the momentum momentarily with a three-pointer, but Villanova continued to battle back.

Garzon Earns Birthday Double-Double For IU Against Columbia In The Bahamas
In what was a close contest between a Columbia team trying to add another big win to their record and an Indiana team that was looking to build off of their recent win over No. 24 Stanford, the Hoosiers were able to pull out a dub in a close contest on Saturday afternoon in game two of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's bracket.
Indiana used a late-game surge to defeat Columbia in the second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's Tournament on Saturday.

Baylor Puts Up 15 Threes, Hits Triple Digits vs Southern Miss
After four great quarters of basketball between Southern Miss and Baylor—the Lady Bears come out on top of game one of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's tournament.
Five Baylor players had more than 14 points today against the Lady Eagles and were 44% (15-34) from behind the three-point line, making that the most threes for them this season. Fontleroy and Andrews both tallied four.
For Southern Miss, Grayson and Evans led the points with 12, despite Grayson fouling out.
Despite their quick start, the Eagles were unable to keep up with Baylor and will be looking for redemption against the loser of Columbia vs Indiana. Baylor will play the winner.
