Ferrari's varsity debut came on the heels of a 5-0 performance at the Grand View Open where he earned four technical falls and a decision en route to a tournament title.
Before Ferrari's surprise emergence from the tunnel inside Carver Hawkeye Arena for the 184 lbs match, the Brands brothers made another surprising move at 174 lbs sending out two-time NCAA qualifier Patrick Kennedy instead of All-American Nelson Brands. Kennedy notched a technical fall over former teammate Aiden Riggins, Iowa State's current starter.
