New No. 1 Valdosta State started off shaky but pulled things together after the first quarter to rout Chowan in the Gulf South matchup.

No. 1 Valdosta State football proved to anyone who may have doubted they deserved the top rankings today with a massive win over Chowan football.

The Blazers improve to 8-0 (4-0) on the season while the Hawks fall to 2-6 (1-4). Valdosta State will have its first road test as the No. 1 team when they travel to Cleveland, MS, to face Delta State, and Chowan will go back home to Murfreesboro, NC, for a matchup against Erskine.

The offense for Valdosta State proceeds to show why they arguably are the best in the division with a total of 573 yards and having another game where they put 50 points or more. Quarterback Sammy Edwards had a solid game with two touchdowns after the interception and threw for 225 yards.

Running back Blake Hester was the star of the game with three rushing touchdowns and 121 yards. Alfonso Franklin also had a good game with 116 yards and his seventh touchdown of the year.
