From Stony Brook's surprising success to North Dakota's statement win, Week 9 of the season had some huge moments, and Week 10 will surely be no different.
Stony Brook Football Truly Has Turned It Around
A year ago Stony Brook sat at the bottom of the CAA standings, with an 0-8 record in conference play and an 0-10 record over all. Now fast forward to today and the Seawolves have a real shot of winning the CAA. They go on the road to play Bryant this week and are currently sitting at 3-1 in conference, 6-2 overall. With a huge win last week against William & Mary, their only real slip up has been their disappointing second half against Villanova that cost them the game against the Wildcats. They came back with a vengeance, burying William and Mary 35-13 and moving up to No. 23 in the rankings. This week's matchup is huge for them as they need to take care of a winless Bryant team if they intend to stay atop the CAA standings and climb the polls. Week after week this team has surprised viewers, and fans are certainly waiting with bated breath to see if the magic of this season will run out.
North Dakota State Means Business
A week after upsetting then No. 1 South Dakota State in a low-scoring, 13-9, victory, North Dakota State came out hot, crushing Murray State 59-6. The Bisons arguably face one more huge challenge in South Dakota, but the confidence they played with this past weekend makes it clear they don't intend to give up their No. 1 ranking without a fight. A week after their defense truly shined, their offense came alive as they were able to quickly expose Murray State and get points on the board. As they face another team that has had a rough season so far in Northern Iowa, it'll be interesting to see if they are able to keep this dominating performance up or if things will slow down as the highly anticipated matchup with South Dakota slowly approaches.
South Dakota State's Offense Has Slowed Down
A week after their narrow 13-9 loss to NDSU, SDSU's offense struggled to get points on the board again. After scoring a touchdown in the first and second quarter, they struggled to move the ball downfield in the second half for the second straight game. Their inability to generate offense in the second half cost them the game against North Dakota State and resulted in an overtime nail biter against South Dakota. This week as they face an unranked and struggling Murray State all eyes are on their offense to get going and find some rhythm again, truly putting away a team as they were a few weeks ago.
Just How Good Is UC Davis Football?
UC Davis has quietly crept up into the number four spot in this week's FCS poll by being solid, sitting at 7-1 on the season with their only loss being to Cal. Some weeks they look dangerous, other weeks they barely scrape by. It just leaves the question of how good they truly are. This week they play bottom ranked Northern Colorado before a huge Top 25 showdown against Montana followed by another huge game against a top team in the conference, Montana State. For a team that has struggled to consistently dominate, UC Davis's identity will really be formed in these last few weeks of season. If they can get going this week and take care of Northern Colorado and come out firing on all cylinders the next few weeks, this team is one to watch these upcoming weeks.
The Battle For The Ivy League
Dartmouth's season so far has been nail biter after nail biter, yet they sit at 6-0 on the season and first in the Ivy League. This week they face a Harvard team that has proven they're capable of competing with the best, being 6-1 themselves and upsetting New Hampshire 28-23 earlier this month. Harvard's only loss on the season was a three point heartbreaker to Brown, a team Dartmouth is set to face on November 23rd. While Dartmouth sits atop the standings, Brown, Columbia, and Harvard all sit at 3-1 and have shown they're capable of winning when it matters. This week's matchup between Dartmouth and Harvard could very well decide who's the Ivy League champion and is certainly not one to miss.
