The highly-anticipated top prospects series between Team CHL and U.S. National Under-18 Team is slated for Nov. 26 and 27 in London, Ont., and Oshawa, Ont., respectively. We now know the roster that Team CHL will ice in this two-game series in a first-of-its-kind top prospects showdown.

Brampton Steelheads forward Porter Martone, Saginaw Spirit forward Michael Misa and Erie Otters defenseman Matthew Schaefer are among the headliners for what should be an especially talented team of NHL Draft-eligible players currently competing in the CHL.

The roster was selected from a list of the top 2025 NHL Draft prospects generated from a survey with scouts from all 32 NHL teams. The final roster decisions were made by general manager Dave Brown from the Erie Otters, and head coach Kris Mallette, who also is the head coach for the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, and his staff which includes Gordie Dwyer from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Ryan Oulahen from the North Bay Battalion.

There will be 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

Team CHL Roster Analysis

The 2025 NHL Draft is expected to be an especially strong one for Canada. Martone is the current leader of the Canadian class and viewed as the best competition for Boston College freshman James Hagens, who is currently projected as the No. 1 pick for the class.

Martone is also a strong candidate for Canada’s World Junior team, and will have another chance to prove himself in this event that he belongs, if he hasn't done enough already.

Also among Canada's top players will be Michael Misa, who was granted exceptional status to enter the OHL two years ago. He has been off to a particularly strong start this season with 21 points in just 10 games for Saginaw. Misa helped the Spirit win the Memorial Cup last season, and is starting to make his own case to be considered for Team Canada at the World Juniors.

On the back end, Team CHL will look to Matthew Schaefer to be one of its anchors. He was a key player at both the World Under-18 Championship last spring and the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup this summer. His season start was delayed by illness, but he's widely considered the top defenseman eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft this season.

Goaltending will also be a strength for this CHL roster. Both Jack Ivankovic and Joshua Ravensbergen are battle tested and have enjoyed a lot of success at the junior level. Ravensbergen is widely viewed as a candidate to be selected in the first round, which is becoming a rarity in the NHL these days. Meanwhile, Ivankovic has been on an absolute roll to start the season, having posted a .936 through his first five appearances this season

Team USA will be made up of the U.S. National Under-18 Team from the National Team Development Program, which plays a mixed schedule featuring USHL and NCAA opponents, as well as competes in international tournaments.

That roster will be led by top draft-eligible prospects Will Moore and Charlie Trethewey, among others.

USA's advantage is that the team is together all season and have played for a few months, but the talent Team CHL is throwing out is going to be an equalizer. There's a ton of talent in the CHL group that should challenge the young American team that has had some early-season struggles in its schedule.

Fans have been clamoring for a CHL-USA crossover game for many years and this will be our first look at how it's going to go. It should be a lot of fun and one of the more fruitful scouting trips of the season for NHL staffs.
