The Anchor-Bone Classic is right around the corner once again, featuring one of the most entertaining rivalries in Division II college football between the Ferris State Bulldogs and Grand Valley State Lakers.

Brian Kelly, now one of the top coaches in college football, earned his first head coaching job for Grand Valley State University in 1991. He helped the Lakers achieve one of their most successful stretches in the school's history and would eventually depart for Central Michigan University to coach the 2004 season and beyond.

Over that time, the Lakers became a perennial winner in Division II. Kelly and the team lauded numerous accolades including a 32-win streak, two national championships, and numerous Division II playoff visits.

In his 13 years as head coach for the Grand Rapids-based team, the Grand Valley Lakers won five conference titles and made six playoff appearances. His overall record was an impressive 118-35-2. In 2001, Grand Valley averaged 600 yards on offense, leading all Division II football teams. They also earned the most points per game during that season, as well as in 2002.
