145 Pounds: Jamilah McBryde, Life (NAIA) vs Aine Drury, King (NCAA)
This match could be fireworks.
Both wrestlers have big-move potential and like to go upper body.
Drury is fresh off an impressive performance at the 2024 World Team Trials, defeating 2023 World bronze medalist Jennifer Page, 4-0, in the challenge tournament finals following a tech over Skylar Hattendorf and a fall over Alara Boyd.
The King University star fell to Iowa’s Macey Kilty — a 2023 Senior World silver medalist — in the best-of-three finals but Drury is trending upward. She only wrestled at regionals and nationals last college season but finished second to Iowa’s Reese Larramendy at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships despite a first-period lead. A few weeks later, Drury won U23 Nationals.
McBryde secured a wild and wacky pin over Larramendy at Solider Salute with both scoring boatloads of points. Larramendy won the rematch, 12-4, during the Iowa dual but it offers a glimpse of how competitive the match against Drury can be.
The Life University star outscored four opponents by a 41-0 count at the NAIA Championships to notch her first title. She’s a good hand fighter who excels when you bring the fight to her. McBryde will use folkstyle turns (cradle, bar half) and hit four-point moves.
Drury stays patient, works from an underhook, and is comfortable in a body lock. McBryde likes those positions, too — making this an easy match to predict.
There will be lots of scoring and — one way or another — the match will end early.
