How To Watch UAlbany Vs. Bryant Football 2024

The UAlbany Great Danes are not playing like the champions they were last year, but they can remedy that Saturday against Bryant. Here’s what to know.

UAlbany is coming off a memorable 2023 season that included a share of the Coastal Athletic Association title and a run to the semifinals of the NCAA Division I FCS Football Championship.

The 11-4 overall performance marked the Great Danes’ first winning season since 2019, but the momentum hasn’t carried over into the 2024 campaign.

After a season-opening win, UAlbany lost three consecutive games, including its CAA opener against Maine on Sept. 28.

The Great Danes rebounded with a win over Cornell last weekend to improve to 2-3 on the year, and they must continue moving in the same direction, as the rest of their schedule is nothing but conference play.

Up first, is CAA newcomer Bryant, who also is 2-3 this season and 0-1 in CAA action.

The two will meet at Bryant's Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET, live on FloFootball.

This will be the sixth time the teams have faced each other since 2009, with UAlbany owning a 3-2 advantage in the series. They last played in 2019, a 45-3 UAlbany victory.

The Great Danes shared the 2023 CAA title with Villanova and Richmond, and both of those teams are among the four CAA squads that have started the conference slate at 2-0.

In the most recent FCS Coaches Poll, five CAA teams are ranked – Villanova (No. 5), Richmond (No. 17), William & Mary (No. 18), Rhode Island (No. 21) and New Hampshire (No. 22), with Stony Brook and Monmouth also receiving votes.

Bryant is coming off a 6-5 campaign in 2023 that included a 4-2 mark in Big South-OVC Football Association. The season ended with wins over Lindenwood (38-3) and Southeast Missouri State (45-21).

Though Bryant started its first FCS/CAA season against Delaware, also a CAA team, it did not count toward their conference records. Each team’s schedule includes four home games and four away games that count as official conference games, and that was not one.

Delaware won that meeting, but Bryant rebounded the following week with a 21-17 win over Franklin Pierce.

As they welcome UAlbany to Smithfield this week, the Bulldogs are fresh off a 42-35 road victory against Brown. For his performance in that win, Bryant senior wide receiver Landon Ruggieri earned CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. He had 10 receptions for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
