- How Does The Diamond League Point System Work? Here’s What To Know
The athletes and fans are familiar with the scenario, as the Memorial Van Damme and King Baudouin Stadium have helped wrap up the league season in the past. It’s the only meet of the year that takes two full days, and it’ll feature all 16 disciplines.
Those competing have proven themselves since April, as spots in the final meet are completely performance-based. It’s a top-tier event for the most elite athletes.
How The 2024 Diamond League Season Unfolded
The first two stops of the 2024 Diamond League season were held in China – Xiamen (April 20) and Shanghai/Suzhou (April 27). The circuit then visited Qatar (May 10), Morocco (May 19), Eugene, Oregon (May 25), Oslo, Norway (May 30), Stockholm (June 2), Paris (July 7), Monaco (July 12), London (July 20), Lausanne (Aug. 22), Silesia (Aug. 25), Rome (Aug. 30) and Zurich (Sept. 5).
Typically, each regular-season meet includes about seven men’s disciplines and seven women’s disciplines chosen from the 16 that are featured in the final meet of the year. Athletes collect prize money and points toward spots in the final.
Once in Belgium, the prize money and prestige will be much higher, and the trophies will be more significant.
The invitation-only Diamond League brings together standout track & field athletes to showcase their skills and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe.
