Iran Narrowly Defeats Japan For Team Title
Iran won 4 medals and took the team title over Japan with a 5-point team victory - 83-78. Iran's team points came from silver medals by Rahman Amouzad (65 kg), Hassan Yazdani (86 kg), Amir Zare (125 kg), and a bronze medal from Amirali Azarpira (97 kg). Because of how the tournament was wrestled, Azarpira's bronze medal win over Kyle Snyder is the match that clinched the title for Iran.
Though Japan finished in second, they put together an incredible tournament with two golds from Rei Higuchi (57 kg) and Kotaro Kiyooka (65 kg) along with a silver by Daichi Takatani (74 kg). They also picked up valuable team points by Hayato Ishiguro at 86 kg who finished in 7th place.
Team USA came away from Paris with 3 medals - Spencer Lee (silver at 57 kg), Kyle Dake (bronze at 74 kg), and Aaron Brooks (bronze at 86 kg). Kyle Snyder fell just short of a medal after losing 4-1 to Azarpira in the bronze medal match. Neither Zain Retherford (65 kg) or Mason Parris (125) scored any significant points for Team USA after going 0-1 in their respective tournaments.
