Sarah Hildebrandt wins gold and Dom Parrish is in bronze medal contention as the third day of wrestling concludes.

Olympic Wrestling Semifinals & Finals - Day 3 Match Notes

Day three semifinals and finals start at 12:15 PM EST. Follow along here for live updates and match results.

Sarah Hildebrandt won 50 kg gold against a new opponent after India's Vinesh Phogat failed to make weight. Hildebrandt defeated Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman, 3-0, to win the gold medal.

Dom Parrish (53 kg) fell to Japan's Akarai Fujinami in the opening round but is still in contention for bronze if Fujinami reaches the finals. 

Semifinals

GR 67 kg: Parviz Nasibov (Ukraine) over Hasrat Jafarov (Azerbaijan), 3-3

First period: Jafarov scores a passivity point and gets a shot from par terre. Nasibov scores two exposure points when he reverses the position on a Jafarov lift. Azerbaijan challenges the call. Challenge won. Officials call 2-2 on the exchange with both wrestlers earning exposure points on a scramble. Jafafov leads 3-2. 

Second period: Nasibov takes the lead on a passivity point and gets a chance on top. Jafarov stops attempts at a turn but Nasibov still trails 3-3. Nasibov holds on for a 3-3 win and a spot in the gold medal finals. 

GR 67 kg: Saeid Esmaeili (Iran) over Slavik Galstyan (Armenia), 10-4

First period: Esmaeili strikes first with a step-out with 1:45 left. Esmaeili scores four points on a body lock but Galstyan secures a counter headlock for two points and secures the fall. Challenge by Iran that the action went out of bounds. Challenge won. The fall is called off and Esmaeili takes a 7-0 lead. Galstyan hits a four-point headlock with 30 seconds left but Esmaeili gets a reversal and step out for a 9-4 lead at the break. 

Second period: Esmaeili scores on a step-out with 1:52 for a 10-4 lead. No scoring after that. Esmaeili wins 10-4 and will wrestle in the gold medal finals. 

GR 87 kg: Alireza Mohmadipiani (Iran) over Zhan Beleniuk (Ukraine), 3-3

First period: Beleniuk scores a passivity point and gets a lift out of bounds for a 3-0 lead with 1:13 left. 

Second period: Mohmadipiani scores his first point on passivity and scores two on a gut wrench for a 3-3 criteria lead. Belenuik nearly scores on a high dive but it's ruled a leg foul so no points scored. 

GR 87 kg: Semen Novikov (Bulgaria) over David Losonczi (Hungary), 3-1

First period: Losonczi scores first on passivity with 1:30 left, gets halfway to a lift, but doesn't secure a turn. 

Second period: Novikov scores on passivity with 2:10 left, and attempts a lift but doesn't get a turn. Novikov leads 1-1 on criteria. A third passivity called and Losonczi gets a second shot on top but cannot get a turn. Novikov still leads, 1-1. Novikov added another point on a step-out with 17 seconds left. Challenge by Hungary. Challenge lost. Novikov wins 3-1

WFS 53 kg: Lucia Yepez (Ecuador) tech Annika Wendle (Germany), 10-0

First period: Yepez strikes first with a takedown for a 2-0 lead with 2:27 left. Yepez scores again on a go-behind for a 4-0 lead with 1:20 left. Caution on Wendle, adding to Yepez's lead at the break, 5-0. 

Second period: Yepez shoots Wendle out of bounds on a double and scores another step-out point for a 6-0 lead. Wendle misses on a shot, Yepez counters with a takedown and turn for a 10-0 tech and spot in the gold medal finals. 

WFS 53 kg: Akari Fujinami (Japan) tech Qianyu Pang (China), 10-0

First period: Fujinami scores on the edge halfway through the period for a 2-0 lead. Arm drag by Fujinami for another takedown for a 4-0 lead with a minute to go. Fujinami hits a low single with 30 seconds left, a scramble ensues, and finally secures the takedown for a 6-0 lead at the break. 

Second period: Fujinami scores on another low single to start the period for an 8-0 lead. Fujinami finishes the match with 1:20 left on a go-behind. Fujinami wins 10-0, pulling Dom Parrish into bronze medal contention. 

Medal Matchups

GR 77 kg Bronze - Malkhas Amoyan (Armenia) over Aram Vardanyan (Uzbekistan), 6-5

First period: Amoyan goes to work on top after taking a 2-0 lead then scores four points out of bounds on a high gut wrench for a 6-0 lead. 

Second period: Vardanyan has an apparent takedown but officials confer. Leg foul. No takedown was awarded. Passivity called on Amoyan. Vardanyan scores a passivity point but is still behind 8-3 when the two trade exposures. Uzbekistan challenges the call. Challenge won. Vardanyan scores four on the exchange, but Amoyan leads 6-5. Several furious attempts by Vardanyan in the closing seconds yield no scoring. Amoyan holds on for a 6-5 win to a bronze medal. 

GR 77 kg Bronze - Akzhol Makhmudov (Kyrgyzstan) over Sanan Suleymanov (Azerbaijan), 6-5

First period: Suleymanov earns a passivity point but chooses to stay neutral. 

Second period: Makhmudov earns a passivity point and works from par terre. Makhmudov gets a left and scores four points for a 5-1 lead halfway through the period. Suleymanov walks Makhmudov off the mat for a caution and two. Suleymanov scores on the edge but is behind 5-5 on criteria. Makhudov wins the bronze, 5-5.

Challenge by Azerbaijan. Challenge lost. The result stands. Makhmudov wins, 6-5.

GR 77 kg Gold - Nao Kusaka (Japan) over Demeu Zhadrayev (Kazakhstan), 5-2

First period: Zhadrayev strikes first with a step-out. Passivity call against Kusaka adds another point for Zhadrayev but doesn't score from par terre. Zhandrayev maintains a 2-0 lead. 

Second period: Kusaka scores a takedown on a dump for a 2-2 lead with 2:34. Officials convene and award four points for the move, giving Kusaka a 4-2 lead. Passivity point against Zhadrayev, extending Kusaka's lead to 5-2. No points were scored from par terre. Kusaka holds on and wins the gold with a 5-2 win. 

GR 97 kg Bronze - Gabriel Rosillo (Cuba) inj. default Rustam Assakalov (Uzbekistan)

First period: Rosillo earns a two-point takedown. Assakalov, 40, can't continue due to a shoulder injury. 

GR 97 kg Bronze - Uzur Dzhuzupbekov (Kyrgyzstan) over Mohamed Gabr (Egypt), 2-1

First period: Gabr scores a passivity point but doesn't score from par terre. 

Second period: Dzhuzupbekov scores a passivity point to take a 1-1 criteria lead but doesn't score on top despite a strange situation where Gabr tries to crawl backward off the mat. Dzhuzupbekov wins the bronze, 1-1 but a challenge by Egypt holds up the outcome. Challenge lost. Final score: 2-1.

GR 97 kg Gold - Mohammadhadi Saravi (Iran) over Artur Aleksanyan (Armenia), 4-1

First period: Aleksanyan gets a passivity point and a shot on top halfway through. Aleksanyan attempts several turns but doesn't score. 

Second period: Saravi scores a passivity point for a 1-1 lead. Saravi powers through for a takedown halfway through for a 3-1 lead. Armenia challenges the call. Challenge lost, giving Savari a 4-1 lead. Savari wins, 4-1. 

WFS 50 kg Bronze - Yui Susaki (Japan) tech Oksana Livach (Ukraine), 10-0

First period: Susaki darts in on a low single and scores a takedown in the first 30 seconds. Low sweep single adds another two for Susaki. A cartwheel leg lace makes the score 6-0 with 24 seconds left. Another low single to the left side adds another two and an 8-0 lead at the break. 

Second period: Susaki wins by 10-0 tech in 17 seconds after a takedown. Susaki wins bronze with a 1-1 record. 

WFS 50 kg Bronze - Ziqi Feng (China) over Otgonjargal Dolgorjav (Mongolia), 6-4 

First period: Feng powers through on a high double for a 2-0 lead with 1:54 left. Sweep single by Feng, nearly has a cradle but transitions to a takedown and turn for a 6-0 lead with 39 seconds left. Reattack by Dolgorjav leads to a takedown with six seconds left. Fend leads 6-2 at the break. 

Second period: Feng hits a head to the outside shot but Dolgorjav hangs on and the action returns to neutral. Feng attempts another shot with 40 seconds left but Dolgorjav counters the shot and gets the takedown but it's not enough as time expires. Feng wins the bronze, 6-4.

WFS 50 kg Gold - Sarah Hildebrandt (United States) over Yusneylis Guzman (Cuba), 3-0 

First period: Guzman takes a shot from space but Hildebrandt defends. Hildebrandt scores on a sweep single and then looks for a leg lace but Guzman's foot slipped out. Hildebrandt leads, 2-0, at the break. 

Second period: Passivity called against Guzman with 2:12 left. Hildebrandt adds another point on an activity clock violation. Sweep single by Guzman but Hildebrandt sprawls and the action goes to neutral. Hildebrandt holds on to the 3-0 lead for a victory and the second gold medal for the US women at the 2024 Olympic Games.
