Both teams (at the conclusion of Tuesday’s games) sit on identical 20-22 records in the ALPB’s South Division, nine games back of Gastonia Baseball Club for the division lead. And while there is still an entire second half of the season left to play, any momentum for a final push will be vital down the stretch.
Charleston took the first game of the series in a 4-3 nailbiter Tuesday night, picking up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. A replay of Tuesday’s game is available on FloBaseball.

How to Watch Atlantic League Baseball in 2024
Watch Atlantic League baseball on FloBaseball and the FloSports app.
FloBaseball will be streaming the Atlantic League and more independent league baseball all season long.
Players to Watch
Anthony Brocato, OF, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs
If you’ve followed along with the Frontier League in prior seasons with your FloBaseball subscription, chances are you know all about this 28-year-old power-hitting outfielder already.
In two electric seasons there with the Washington Wild Things before moving on to the Atlantic League in the offseason, Brocato smashed 52 home runs and 145 RBIs in 170 games as he finished in the top 10 league-wide in home runs in both seasons with Washington.
Brocato has gotten right to it with the Blue Crabs, as well, with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs through 41 games, feats made even more impressive by the fact that Brocato is actually on a big recent cold streak.
With only one RBI since May 31 with no homers in that same timeframe, Southern Maryland needs one of their best sluggers to get his mojo back for the rest of the first half of the season and beyond, and perhaps a six-game stretch of seeing the same team this week may help do the trick.
Clint Frazier, OF, Charleston Dirty Birds
Independent baseball welcomes great baseball players from all backgrounds, and that includes a former starting outfielder for the New York Yankees.
A blue-chip prospect for the 2013 MLB Draft who was Gatorade’s national player of the year in high school, Frazier was picked fifth overall by Cleveland that year and made his major-league debut four years later with the Yankees. Having his best season with New York in 2019 (12 home runs, 38 RBIs in 69 games), Frazier later played with both the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, as well, before becoming a free agent after a stint with the latter in 2023.
Charleston scooped him up 13 games into the Atlantic League season and it’s been an up-and-down stint so far from Frazier in West Virginia, batting .271 through Tuesday’s games. However, he did smash his second homer of the season on Sunday against the Lancaster Stormers to bookend what was a nine-game hitting streak, so maybe things are starting to turn around for the player who was once sharing an outfield with names like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
