The stars aligned and delivered in Stockholm, with many top names performing at their expected high levels as they brought home quality mid-season wins on Sunday at Olympic Stadium. 

This serves as the “halfway break" for Diamond League competition, as the next meeting will not be held until July because many national championships will be taking place in June.

Here are five big takeaways from competition in Stockholm on Sunday.

Narve Nordas Runs Incredible Final Lap To Win Men’s 3,000m

With nearly a dozen guys in contention to win with only a lap to go, it was anybody’s to take. 

Luis Grijalva, Dominic Lokinyomo, Andreas Almgren and Stewart McSweyn were all ready to strike.

Nordas, however, had something to say about that, closing in 54 seconds to surge all the way from 10th to first in an incredible finish, bringing home the win in 7:33, a personal best. 

His closing speed appears to be in a great place as he employed some great tactics over that final lap to secure that win. After his disappointing outing in Oslo just a few days ago, this was an excellent bounce-back performance from the Norwegian and showed that he’ll be ready to fire off a great performance in the 1,500m.

Femke Bol Runs Her Fastest Season Opener In The 400m Hurdles

Taking the stage in her marquee event for the first time in 2024, Femke Bol looked dominant as always, running 53.07 to bring home the win by over a half-a-second ahead of Rushell Clayton, who ran 53.78. 

Bol’s mark would have been a world lead, but Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran 52.70 at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet just two days earlier. 

These two both opened up their seasons incredibly well thus far; the first time they meet for battle in 2024 will certainly be an electric showdown. 

Back On Top: Shericka Jackson Wins At 200m

As she navigates a slower start to her season, Jackson brought home a win in Stockholm, running 22.69 to edge out Julia Hendricksson, who ran 22.89. 

Her time of 22.69 isn’t trailblazing, although the field did run into a slight headwind (-2.0 m/s).

But considering how Jackson’s season has gone so far, seeing her get a win is a great sign and a step in the right direction. 

With a long season ahead of her as she prepares for the Paris Olympics, getting wins and continuing to improve with each race will be integral to getting back to the dominating presence we’ve seen from her the past couple years in the 200 meters. 

Lamecha Girma Dominates Steeplechase, Clocks 8:01

He’s the world record-holder for a reason. 

Lamecha Girma brought home a comfortable win in Stockholm over the barriers, as his 8:01 mark was four seconds ahead of the competition. He cruised to a world lead and nearly approached being the first sub-8:00 athlete of 2024.

As one of the two most dangerous men’s steeplechasers on the circuit, Girma is looking quite good considering this was only his first steeplechase of the season.

The battle between him and Soufiane El Bakkali later this year is going to be incredible, with both stars in good form being a few months out from the Olympics.

Djamel Sedjati Crushes Field, Runs Another World Lead in 800m

The final race in Stockholm lived up to the hype.

The crop of men’s 800 meter runners assembled in Stockholm was pretty incredible, but Sejdati had other plans. 

Holding the world lead before the Stockholm Diamond League meeting, Sedjati bursted past the field with 150 meters to go. Nobody was able to find a response and he won by a whole second over Bryce Hoppel and Co.

Sedjati has now run incredible times of 1:43.23 and 1:43.51 over the last week, clearly showing that he’s one of the top men to be considered for a podium finish in Paris this summer. 

Might he be the first to dip under 1:43 this season? It could be very likely.
