Stony Brook Baseball Continues Homestand With Charleston Series
Stony Brook Baseball Continues Homestand With Charleston Series
Stony Brook will play a three-game series against the CAA's College of Charleston. The Seawolves are fresh off a dominant win over Fordham earlier this week
Stony Brook baseball looks to close out this week as the Seawolves try to get on the right side of .500 early in the conference season. Meanwhile, Charleston has no plans to slip further down the Coastal Athletic Association’s pecking order.
Stony Brook will play three more games at home against CofC, part of an ongoing nine-game homestand at Joe Nathan Field. Earlier this week, Stony Brook demolished Fordham, 14-3 to break even on the season.

Stony Brook (12-12 overall, 1-2 CAA) will need to keep the energy up against Charleston (14-9, 1-2) series, especially with the Cougars in need of some positive momentum after losing three of their past four—including dropping two in their opening CAA series of the year against North Carolina A&T.
The Seawolves’ stay at home continues into next week when it hosts Sacred Heart in nonconference play next Tuesday before welcoming Elon to town for a CAA series next weekend. Meanwhile, Charleston’s third game of the year against Georgia Southern will take place at Patriots Point next Tuesday before the Cougars trek to face UNC Wilmington later in the week for their own conference series.

How to Watch Stony Brook Vs. Charleston Baseball 2024
FloBaseball will be streaming CAA Men’s Baseball and BIG EAST Baseball all season long.
Player to Watch: Eddie Smink, RHP, Stony Brook
The 2-3 record that Smink currently holds this season is deceiving as the sophomore righty is evolving quickly into one of the CAA’s top arms and deserves his flowers. Only Elon’s Justin Mitrovich and William & Mary’s Nate Knowles have more strikeouts among CAA pitchers than Smink’s 40 on the year thus far, making him well on his way to passing his freshman total of 52 punchouts despite being well under his 2023 innings total (61⅔ to 32⅔ as of this writing Tuesday night) right now.
Remember, Smink was the starter and got the pitching win — allowing just three hits and striking out seven in five innings against one of the most powerful lineups in the country — when the Seawolves pulled off one of the early shocks on the college baseball calendar by beating defending national champion LSU in Baton Rouge in February, and Smink was unlucky not to get the win in his CAA season debut against W&M last Friday, striking out eight and giving up two earned runs on just two hits in 4⅓ frames as the Seawolves lost 6-1. With a combined 28 Ks in his past three starts, don’t be surprised if Smink gets back in the win column later this week with a gem.
