The CAA Men's Basketball Tournament Championship Game is set for the defending champions No.1 Charleston Basketball to play No.7 Stony Brook at 7 p.m. on March 12. Stony Brook is having a Cinderella story in March Madness and has made history reaching its first CAA Tournament Championship Game in school history.

Charleston is on the verge of history as well with a chance at back-to-back CAA Tournament Championships for the first time since UNCW in 2016 and 2017.  The Cougars have extended their win streak to 11 games, the second longest active streak in the country, and are just one game away from a trip to the NCAA Tournament. 

Stony Brook has been a historic run this CAA Tournament becoming only the the third team seeded seventh to advance to the final. The Seawolves are coming off two double overtime victories over  the No. 2 Drexel, and No. 3 Hofstra, by far the hardest route of any team in the 2024 CAA Men's Tournament.

Charleston Basketball vs. Stony Brook Basketball

Charleston is coming off a narrow 61-56 win over No. 5 Towson in the semifinals. The Tigers were one of the few teams who beat Charleston this season in conference play. Charleston has experience in this position as they won against Towson in a close 77-72 game before entering last year's championship vs.UNCW.

Stony Brook, however, finds itself in a new position reaching its first ever CAA Tournament Championship Game in program history. The Seawolves are coming off two thrilling back-to-back double overtime victories over No.2 Drexel and No.3 Hofstra.

There are three players for Stony Brook who have all had huge parts in surging this team to the finals. In the quarterfinals Aaron Clarke and Chris Maidoh both scored their season-highs in scoring in the clutch win over Drexel. The team's leading scorer, Tyler Stephenson-Moore, led the team with 23 points in the big semifinals win over Hofstra. 

Earlier in the CAA regular season Charleston defeated Stony Brook 93-87 on the road. The game was intense with 17 lead changes throughout and featured eight players finishing in double figures. Charleston had five of those players with Reyne Smith leading the way with 20 points and shooting 4-6 from 3-pt. 

For Stony Brook on their Jan. 6 matchup vs. Charleston, Tyler Stephenson-Moore and Aaron Clarke both finished with 21 points.

Prior to that, the last time these two saw each other was in the 2023 CAA Championship Quarterfinals where Charleston won 74-52.

Both teams are playing their best brand of basketball in March Madness as they seek a CAA Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

CAA Basketball Championship Prediction

I feel Charleston Men's Basketball proven success in the CAA Basketball Tournament as well longer recovery time due to having a bye to the quarterfinals helps get them the win. Stony Brook has fought extremely hard each game, beating the No.2 and No.3 seed and will be tested again with the defending champions.
