Among the most historically decorated programs in the BIG EAST Conference, St. John's heads into its 2024 season looking to build a future that measures up to past glory.

St. John's boasts 37 NCAA Tournament appearances, with at least one trip in every decade from the 1940s through the 2010s.

The Red Storm seek their first appearance in the NCAA postseason of the 2020s this year. Despite being picked sixth in the preseason BIG EAST poll, St. John's has a lineup built to surprise in pursuit of the program's first NCAA Tournament since 2018.

How Did St. John's Baseball Do In 2023?

St. John's finished on the right side of .500 for the first time since 2019 with a 28-25 record in 2023.

The Red Storm head into 2024 looking to parlay their overall improvement into a stronger showing in the BIG EAST. They went 8-12 in conference play, finishing in sixth place in the BIG EAST for a third consecutive season.

Who Coaches St. John's Baseball?

Longtime St. John's assistant coach Mike Hampton became the Red Storm's head coach in 2020.

Hampton's first season at the helm ended prematurely due to COVID. In Hampton's first three seasons, St. John's went 69-78-1.

Has St. John's Baseball Ever Won The College World Series?

No, St. John's has never won the College World Series.

Red Storm teams have advanced to six College World Series in program history, beginning in 1949. St. John's made three return trips in the 1960s under coach Jack Kaiser, another in 1978, and the most recent appearance was in 1980, with each of the latter two coming under coach Joe Russo.

Notable Returning Players

Paul Orbon, OF

Since breaking into the lineup as a redshirt freshman in 2021, Paul Orbon's year-to-year production at the plate has jumped exponentially.

Orbon became a regular contributor in 2022 when he hit .260 and drove in 14 runs with a home run. In 2023, Orbon emerged as one of St. John's top batters with a .338 average, three home runs and 33 RBI.

Orbon also stole six bases while getting on-base at a .433 rate.

Blake Mayberry, INF

Hartford College transfer Blake Mayberry made an impression in limited appearances a season ago. Mayberry delivered a .341 batting average with a .901 OPS in 41 at-bats, hit two home runs and slugged .537.

Mayberry has an opportunity to emerge as a leading hitter in 2024 with more at-bats.

Notable Newcomers

Adam Agresti, C

Local prep prospect Adam Agresti came to St. John's from Kennedy Catholic High School, where he was tabbed the state of New York's No. 2 overall catcher in the 2023 signing class.

Agresti ranked top 50 nationally among all freshman catchers. In the summer of 2023, he hit .343 and drove in 25 runs for Batavia of the Perfect Game Collegiate League.

Chad Falcon, OF/P

Versatile freshman Chad Falcon joins the Red Storm, offering a diverse skill set that could see him make an immediate impact in 2024.

The left-hander can pitch and also played first base and outfield at St. Joseph's Regional High School.

Falcon ranked as the nation's No. 166 outfielder in the 2023 class, per Perfect Game.
