125: #14 Braeden Davis, Penn State vs Tristian Lujan, Michigan State
Davis gets in immediately on a double and finishes for a takedown to take an early, 3-0 lead. Lujan escapes in 11 seconds to close the gap to 3-1. Not a ton of action for the remainder of the period and it’s Lujan’s choice with the score still at 3-1.
Lujan earns another escape in a little over 10 seconds and now Davis holds the lead, 3-2. Still not a ton of action from either wrestler but Davis seems to be picking up his pace slightly. The score remains 3-2 heading into the third with Davis going down.
Davis earns the quick escape and then gets back to his offense with another double to extend his lead to 7-2. Another escape for Lujan to make it 7-3 with a little over remaining in the match. A lot of pressure from Davis in the final minute but no score - Davis wins a controlling 7-3 bout.

133: #4 Aaron Nagao, Penn State vs Andrew Hampton, Michigan State
Nagao off to a quick start with an arm drag to a go-behind for a takedown. After riding for 30 seconds, he lets Hampton up for an escape and uses his snap to get to another go-behind. Now Nagao is playing catch and release and gets another takedown to extend his lead to 9-2. He secures one more takedown before the end of the first to take a 12-3 lead into the second.
Nagao goes down in the second and earns the escape to extend his lead to 13-3. Hampton gets in on a single leg but Nagao's able to turn it into a scramble and a stalemate. Off the restart, Nagao gets in on his low single and coverts for another takedown - 16-3 now. Nagao gets close to a turn but rides out the period on top with Hampton going down in the third.
Nagao immediately throws in double legs and gets a two-count to earn back points and the 18-3 tech fall win.

141: #2 Beau Bartlett, Penn State vs #33 Jordan Hamdan, Michigan State
Slow start to this match - not much action from either wrestler but Bartlett pressuring forward. Bartlett continues to pressure and Hamdan gets warned for stalling. 20 seconds left in the first and Bartlett gets in on a single, lifts, and almost finishes but Hamdan scrambles through and avoids giving up the takedown. Great action to end the first period.
Hamdan goes down in the second, granbys, and earns the escape to go up 1-0. Similar to the first period and not a ton of action in the second. Hamdan doing just enough to avoid another stall call and keeps the 1-0 lead into the third.
Bartlett goes down in the third and earns a quick escape to tie the match at 1. Hamdan gets in on a low single, Bartlett passes the leg and Hamdan holds on for too long - Bartlett catches him on his back! Bartlett gets 3 back points and busts this match open - 7-1. Hamdan gets an escape but Bartlett adds a point for riding time to win 8-2.

149: David Evans, Penn State vs Braden Stauffenberg, Michigan State
We're back to quick action with Evans in on a high crotch and earns the takedown right away to take a 3-0 lead. Stauffenberg gets the escape and Evans gets right back in on a leg. This time Stauffenberg scrambles through and avoids giving up the takedown. A few more scrambles but no scores and it's still 3-1 Evans lead going into the second.
Evans goes down to start the second and earns an escape to extend his lead to 4-1. Action slows considerably and the score remains 4-1 going into the third. This time Stauffenberg goes down and earns the escape to make it 4-2. Riding time isn't a factor and Stauffenberg can't get through Evans' defense - Evans wins it 4-2.

157: #1 Levi Haines, Penn State vs #19 Chase Saldate, Michigan State
This has the potential to be the best match of the afternoon - Saldate is a dangerous wrestler and I expect him to bring it against Haines. A lot of hand-fighting and feeling out to start the match. About 90 seconds in, Haines gets in on a leg, but Saldate counters for the takedown and takes a 3-0 lead! Haines earns the quick escape and it's 3-1 going into the second period.
Haines goes down in the second and earns the escape to make the score 3-2. Both wrestlers are still very active on their feet with Haines coming forward slightly more than Saldate. Neither wrestler takes a committed attack and the score remains 3-2 with Saldate going down to start the third period.
Saldate earns an escape in just 3 seconds and then immediately fires off a shot and gets in deep. He's close to finishing a few times but Haines scrambles through the position and earns a takedown - Haines takes the 5-4 lead with 1:20 to go! Quick blood time break and off the restart Saldate earns the escape and we're knotted at 5. Neither wrestler takes an attack and we'll go to overtime!
A lot of hand-fighting to start but Saldate seems to be coming forward slightly more than Haines. Saldate gets to his front headlock and marches Haines out of bounds - Haines gets warned for stalling. About a minute to go and now Haines is in on a leg and we're scrambling again! Haines is really close to the finish but Saldate passes the leg and secure the stalemate - we're going to rideouts now.
Haines goes down first with Saldate putting on a tough ride. Haines almost breaks free but Saldate drops down to the leg at just the right time, holds on, and gets called for stalling with 3 seconds left in the first rideout. Saldate stays on top and rides out for the entire period.
Saldate's choice now and he goes down. Saldate slowly builds up to his feet and looked to granby but Haines returns him. Saldate worked his way back up and Haines locked up a body lock for a big mat return. However, on the return Haines gets called for a locked hands and Saldate gets a point! Penn State coaches are challenging. The call is overturned and we're still wrestling!
A minute goes on the clock and we're back to neutral wrestling. Saldate gets a body lock and almost takes Haines to his back but they go out of bounds - no takedown! This match is incredible. No score the rest of the period and we'll go back to rideouts with Saldate going down first.
Saldate starts a scramble and almost gets a reversal but Haines is able to scramble through the position. Now Haines holds a front headlock as Saldate gets to his feet and Haines gets called for stalling - 1 point Saldate and he takes the 6-5 lead. It's Haines turn now, he goes down, gets to his feet a few times but isn't able to earn the escape - they go out of bounds with 7 seconds to go. Off the restart Haines rolls through, has Saldate and danger and gets the reversal as time expires! Michigan State's corner is challenging the call to see if time ran out before the reversal was given. Call upheld - Haines wins with the last second reversal - what a match!

165: #8 Mitchell Mesenbrink, Penn State vs #10 Caleb Fish, Michigan State
Unsurprisingly, Mesenbrink gets a takedown right away to take a 3-0 lead. Mesenbrink locks up a bar half, and almost takes it over but Fish holds strong defensively. Mesenbrink lets Fish up and Fish quickly gets a throw-by to a takedown and takes Mesenbrink to his back! Fish takes a 6-3 lead and Penn State's corner is challenging the call. The call is upheld and it's still 6-3 with Fish in the lead. Mesenbrink earns a quick escape after the restart and cuts the lead to 6-4. Mesenbrink keeps his pressure high, gets back to a leg attack, and earns a takedown to take the lead right before the period ends, 7-6.
Mesenbrink goes down to start the second and again earns the quick escape - 8-6 now. After a wild first period, the pace has slowed considerably - still 8-6 with a minute to go in the second period. Mesenbrink takes a shot from the outside, Fish almost gets a go-behind but Mesenbrink is able to defend. The period is winding down and Mesenbrink clears ties, and runs to a leg for another takedown and he'll take an 11-6 lead into the third period.
Fish goes down to start the third and almost catches Mesenbrink on his back again but just earns the escape. Errant shot from Fish and Mesenbrink almost gets the go-behind but Fish scrambles through and again almost catches Mesenbrink on his back! Mesenbrink is able to scramble through the position and eventually earns the takedown - 14-7 now. Fish earns another escape, shoots, and Mesenbrink gets an easy go-behind for another takedown. Fish escapes and the Mesenbrink gets the major decision win - 18-9, wild match!

174: Terrell Barraclough, Penn State vs DJ Shannon, Michigan State
Not a ton of action to in this bout - both wrestlers seem content to handfight in the center of the mat. That's what they both do for the entirety of the first period - 0-0 going into the second. Barraclough goes down to start the second and earns an escape in less than 10 seconds. And we're back to handfighting! Finally, Shannon takes a committed shot and almost finishes but Barraclough is able to scramble through and avoids giving up the takedown. Barraclough continues to scramble and earns the takedown to make it 4-0.
Shannon's choice to start the third and he picks neutral. Barraclough gets to his offense now, shoots a single and finishes quick - he extends his lead to 7-0. Barraclough riding tough now but is unable to get to a turn. Riding time is locked up but Shannon is able to earn the escape with just 4 seconds left to avoid giving up the major - Barraclough wins 8-1.

184: #5 Bernie Truax, Penn State vs #19 Layne Malczewski, Michigan State
Both Truax and Malczewski seem content feeling one another out to start the match - not a ton of action after the first minute. Now with a minute left, Truax gets to his single and fights through a whizzer to finish the takedown. Quick escape for Malczewski and it's 3-1 in favor of Truax going into the second.
Malczewski goes down to start the second period and earns an escape in less than 10 seconds - Truax leads 3-2. Pace remains fairly slow until about 15 seconds left with Bernie getting in on his single leg. The finish looks imminent but Truax just runs out of time and the score remains 3-2 going into the third.
Truax goes down and escapes to lead 4-2. Malczewski comes forward slightly but isn't able to clear Truax's defense. Malczewski takes a few attempts but doesn't come anywhere near scoring and Truax wins it - 4-2.

197: #1 Aaron Brooks, Penn State vs #31 Kael Wisler, Michigan State
Aaron Brooks gets right to his underhook and just powers through for an early takedown. Brooks seems content to play catch and release with Wisler. He scores with a strong double from the outside, releases, then gets a snap to a go-behind to take a 9-2 lead. Another escape, another snap to a go-behind. Another escape, another double from Brooks and it's 15-4 with Brooks rolling. Brooks allows Wisler one more escape and this time Brooks gets back to his underhook and gets one more takedown before the period ends to take an 18-5 lead into the second.
Brooks is on top to start the second period and looks for a turn for a while before he lets Wisler up at about the 30 second mark. An errant shot from Wisler and it's an easy go-behind for Brooks to complete the 21-6 tech fall win.

285: Lucas Cochran, Penn State vs #33 Josh Terrill, Michigan State
Final bout of the afternoon - and it's not Kerkvliet for the Nittany Lions - it's Lucas Cochran. Terrill is noticeably bigger than Cochran but Cochran looks considerably quicker. Cochran gets to a snatch single but Terrill is able to defend. This time Cochran actually hits a knee and finishes his single for 3. Cochran rides out the period on top.
Terrill goes down in the second and the big man hits a granby but isn't able to escape. Now he tries to work out the old-fashioned way, gets to his feet but Cochran runs him out of bounds and stays on top with a minute to go in the second. Cochran isn't able to work for a turn but Terrill doesn't get back to his feet and Cochran ends the period on top leading 3-0 with over 2:30 of riding time.
Cochran goes down in the third and works for a quick escape to extend his lead to 4-0. Not a ton of action on their feet from the big men. Cochran takes a few shots but Terrill defends. Now Terrill is trying to work some upperbody offense but doesn't get close to a score - Cochran wins 5-0.
