What: U.S. Olympic Trials
Weight: 76 kg (women’s freestyle)
When: April 19-20
Where: State College, Pennsylvania (Bryce Jordan Center)
How to watch: Peacock

Welcome to the wild, wacky, crazy, domestic 76-kilogram women’s freestyle weight class. This deep field keeps everyone guessing — and you never know when a marquee match might materialize.

It could be the US Open.

It could be the World Team Trials.

It could be a college tournament.

It could be a college dual.

It could be a tournament overseas.

Seven U.S. wrestlers in the field have reached Final X or the final Olympic Trials, led by six-time World champion Adeline Gray who turned 33 on January 15 and has 10 World/Olympic medals.

Gray has been a force of nature at this weight and is still the wrestler everyone looks up to. Her bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships earned her a spot in the Olympic Trials finals, and she is two wins away from making her third Olympic team.

Here's an example of how results are often unpredictable.

Dymond Guilford pinned Kylie Welker in the semifinals at the US Open but Welker was leading 8-2. Welker beat Guilford, 9-6, to make the national team but lost to Guilford 4-2 during the Missouri Valley Open finals (a college tournament) in November.

Welker lost to Yelena Makoyed, 11-6, during the consolation semis at the US Open but defeated her 12-2 at the World Team Trials in May and, most recently, 11-3, at the NWCA National Duals and 11-0 in the finals of the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.

To add another twist, Makoyed defeated Guilford, 7-4, at the 2024 Henri Deglane tournament in France. That’s after Guilford defeated Makoyed 9-6 at the World Team Trials but lost to her, 12-2, at the 2023 Henri Deglane tournament last February.

This is all building to the April 19-20 Olympic Trials in State College, Pennsylvania. Who will face Adeline Gray in the best-of-three finals is anyone’s guess.

Below is a breakdown of how the seven Final Xers have fared against each other since February 4, 2023.
