In his last marathon, Kipchoge suffered a rare defeat. The two-time Olympic champion placed sixth at this spring’s Boston Marathon, just the third loss of his marathon career.
“My run has taken me across the world,” Kipchoge said in an announcement video.
“Along the way when you look around there are ups and downs but the path is beautiful. And right now I run towards Paris 2024."
But to achieve what inspires me in Paris I must return to my special place. Back to Berlin.”
