U17 World Teamer Nicholas Sahakian Chooses Arizona State
#40 2025 prospect Nicholas Sahakian chooses ASU over PSU, Michigan, and more.
Nicholas Sahakian, the #40 overall prospect in the class of 2025, will be going to Arizona State. The St. John Bosco rising junior chose the Sun Devils over Michigan, Purdue, Oregon State, and Penn State.
Sahakian is coached by Rueben Valencia, father of former and current Arizona State wrestlers Anthony, Zahid, and Cael Valencia.
“Arizona’s always just felt like home. I knew all the team. They’re some awesome dudes. I really respected that they were all humble and treated everyone the same. It just felt like family when I got there.”
Sahakian's Instagram announcement:
Sahakian won the 220 California state title this past year as a sophomore. In April he made the U17 Greco World Team and therefore will compete at the U17 World Championships on July 31st which can be streamed live on FloWrestling. The World Teamer’s desire to pursue both freestyle and Greco-Roman was a reason he chose ASU. "I want to make the World Team as many times as I can. Whether it's in freestyle or Greco, like Cohlton Schultz."
Sahakian also mentioned how NIL came up in recruiting talks. "Coach Jones was explaining to me how the (NIL) process works and told me it would be good for me," he said. "That helped his offer."
Sahakian is the Sun Devils' first commitment from the class of 2025 and just the fourth overall. You can view the three other 2025 commitments HERE.
