National Champion Alara Boyd Out For The Post Season
McKendree national champion Alara Boyd announced that she will not compete in the upcoming regional qualifying tournament this weekend.
One of the most dynamic and entertaining college wrestlers will sit out the remainder of the year due to a season-long battle with injuries. Alara Boyd is a three-time national collegiate finalist and a 2021 national champion who was instrumental in McKendree winning the first three National Collegiate Women's Collegiate Wrestling Championships.
Boyd made the announcement on Instagram with the following message.
"This wrestling season hasn't been ideal for me at all. With the circumstances, I can truly say I gave it my all. As much as I want to wrestle post-season, it's just not in the cards for me. Shoutout to my teammates. Can't wait to see you guys kill it. For me, it's time to heal up."
Boyd still has a COVID year and could return to college for an additional season, although she's undecided if she will take her final year of eligibility. Recovery is the priority.
"Honestly, I'm undecided if I'll return (to wrestle in college)," Boyd said. "I'm looking at two separate procedures for my knee, so it will depend on the recovery timeline from those. My main goal after recovery is to get myself prepared and rehabbed for the Olympic Trials Qualifiers."
In addition to her college accolades, Boyd has been a mainstay on the international scene. She qualified for the 202One Olympic Trials, made four age-level World teams, and was a two-time U17 World medalist.
